Scott Catt takes the helm of the basketball program of the South Sudan as the newest country on earth strives to build the game of basketball and build their nation in the process. Perhaps this is what makes Coach Catt the perfect fit for the job. Not only does he have a rich international basketball background, but he also has also established a winning tradition at every stop along his coaching path.
As the national coach, Coach Catt has responsibility overseeing every aspect of the South Sudanese basketball program. From the 3on3 teams with aspirations of competing in the Tokyo Olympics, to the youth teams and their development into the top tier of elite global talent. Upon accepting his new role of Head Coach, Scott said, "I am honored to serve as the national coach for the great nation of the South Sudan. I am grateful for the overwhelming support that has come from around the world. This is an amazing nation with a rich basketball history and an opportunity to do something special. My goal, and the goal of the entire federation, is to create champions on and off the court. We will compete at the highest level on the world stage and continue to develop talented players that will rise to the highest levels of basketball."
Coach Catt's career began as a director of player development coach for a nationally ranked high school and then again on the highest level of college basketball. As his name became synonymous with sustained success, he found himself working with players and coaches from some of the nation's top conferences, including the Big West, WAC, Pac 12, Big Sky, WCC, ACC, Big 12 as well as many of Divsion II and III schools.
Scott has also had the opportunity to work directly with NBA teams and players in development and evaluation of foreign talent, and has made a name for himself as a coach in the international leagues. As the head of scouting and offensive coordinator for the Mazatlan Nauticos, Scott helped lead the number 1 ranked offense in the CIBACOPA, a top league in Latin America. He now serves as the Associate Head Coach for the Guasave Frayeros of the CIBACOPA with duties that include coordinating the offense, scouting and off season recruiting. He has also serves as a special assistant to the Mexican national program, scouting and training potential candidates to represent the Mexican side in international competition.
As a head coach, Scott has a .821 winning percentage on the international level, as head coach for the International Basketball Academy, a team devoted to raising the game of basketball in countries across the world by competing against the highest competition in the world.
Coach Catt is a product of the Pete Carril (legendary Princeton coach and Naismith Hall of Famer) coaching tree, and has directed camps all over the country. Scott has also served on several boards, startups and consulting positions. With several regional titles, city championships, state championships and national final fours in several countries, Scott is excited for the success that will be brought to the South Sudan. A believer in education, Coach Catt earned his BA in African History with honors from BYU and his masters in Organizational Behavior and Coaching from Cambridge and University College London in the United Kingdom.
